High Performance Coaching Camp with Guest Coach Tom Reidy

This week Badminton Ireland High Performance Centre at Marino Institute of Education Dublin is hosting a series of training sessions led by guest coach Tom Reidy. Also in conjunction with the camp there has been a series of CPD workshops and seminars including a Coaches Clinic, Physio session, anti-doping seminar taking place this evening, and a sports psychology lecture on Thursday.

The Sunday session with Tom Reidy was a great success with great feedback coming from those people who attended the session which saw a combination of classroom based and on court activities. Coaches came away with a broadened knowledge of high performance badminton and many ideas for using in their own coaching sessions. Those coaches who attended earned 10 Continuous Professional Development points towards maintaining their coaching qualifications. To find out more about CPD please click the link here.

The session on Tuesday was led by Sara Jane McDonnell from the Institute of Sport who took a 2 hour educational session about how athletes can look after their bodies and avoid having to visit physiotherapists in the future. She explained how badminton players suffer from a large number of injuries caused by repetitive movements and how they can be prevented by ensuring proper preparation before and after sessions. The session was very well received by all those present.

The final two sessions of the week are an Anti-doping seminar this evening which will educate players and coaches about how they are responsible for ensuring that what they take into their bodies, and finally a sport psychology session on Thursday evening.
