Badminton Ireland had a number of athletes competing today Friday the 21st of January.
Irish Nhat Nguyen who reached the last eight of the India Open BWF Tour 500 event last week carried on his good form at the India International this week, progressing to the semi-final beating opposition from India, Thailand and Belgium on his way to the last four.
Tomorrow Nhat is set to face Lucas Claerbout of France. The pair last met in 2019 with Clarebout taking victory on that occasion. Nhat will look to even the score this time around with a place in this BWF Tour 300 event on the line it is set to be an exciting match up.
Meanwhile in Sweden Ireland had two girls competing in the Swedish Open in the singles event.
Kate Frost was first up against Veronika Dobiasova of Czech Republic. Kate lost the opening game 21-13 and then fought back to win the next two games 21-13 21-10 to book a place in the last 16. Rachael Darragh then took to the court and kept the good news coming winning her match in straight games 21-8 21-18 against Cecilia Wang of Sweden. This win securing Ireland two places in the last 16 of the event.
