Third Level Badminton
Badminton Ireland is committed to the development of third level badminton throughout Ireland. In order to grow the strength of third level badminton.
Badmitnon Ireland are working closely with Student Sport Ireland, who run third level badminton leagues throughout Ireland. Student Sport Ireland in association with Badminton Ireland held a new event known as the Third Level Men's & Women's Open Singles on February 15th. This event was highly successful with students from 8 different colleges making the trip to Dublin. For a full list of winners and a article on the event click here.
The Technological University of Dublin City Campus were recently crowned the Student Sport Ireland / Badminton Ireland League Champions after a powerful display all day saw them take glory in Baldoyle Badminton Centre. In a change to the final’s day format from previous years six teams took part in the cup finals on the day with the teams being split into two groups of three teams and they played off in a round robin style event. The following colleges were represented, TU Dublin City Campus, TU Dublin Tallaght Campus, Dundalk IT, Dublin City University, IT Carlow and Cork IT. Badminton Ireland wishes to encourage sustainability and development of third level clubs throughout Ireland, and actively encourages students to get involved in coach education particulary Shuttle Time and the Level 1 qualifications. Badminton Ireland can also offer a number of coach education Student Coaching Bursaries to students interested in getting involved in the coaching profession.
We also liaise with University Sports Officers to encourage the inclusion of badminton amongst their quota of sports scholarships. See below for details of currently listed University Sports Scholarships:
